From Rome or Milan, you can travel by train to Florence or Siena, which offer the easiest access to our venue (more information on trains below). If you prefer to avoid the train, flight connections are available into the Florence and Pisa airports through many major European cities, including Rome, Paris, London, Zurich, Frankfurt and Munich. Borgo Stomennano is approximately 50 minutes from the Florence airport (Florence Airport Peretola, formerly known as Amerigo Vespucci Airport) and approximately 87 minutes from the Pisa airport (Pisa International Airport, also known as the Galileo Galilei Airport).
Getting around Italy
Trenitalia is the largest train operator in Italy, offering high-speed and reasonably priced trains between Italy’s cities and towns. Booking several days in advance is recommended for best prices and seat options, but we have also booked just a couple of hours before departure without issue. You can book online here or on the Trenitalia app. Similar to Amtrak in the U.S., the train platform is announced 15-30 minutes before departure. Refer to the monitors in the train station or the Trenitalia app for the platform number (we found that the app updates before the station monitor). While seats can be reserved ahead of time, if traveling with large suitcases, prompt boarding is recommended to ensure space to stow luggage. Italo is another train operator in Italy, offering a very similar service to Trenitalia.
In cities, taxis may be found at taxi stands or called using the Freenow app or your hotel’s front desk. In the countryside, including Monteriggioni, taxis are not readily available and should be reserved in advance. Private car services are available throughout Tuscany as well. Uber is not yet offered in Florence or Tuscany.
Rental cars are available and recommended for those wishing explore Tuscany on their own schedule. If you are spending a few days in Florence prior to the wedding, we recommend renting a car on your way out of the city. Florence is very pedestrian-friendly, and certain blocks of the city are for permitted vehicles only ("zona a traffico limitato" or "ZTL" zones). Parking in Florence is limited.
Public transit is available in each city. Florence has a tram and bus network, and the tram is generally easy to maneuver with Google Maps for route guidance.
